Toddler Sleep Problems - Better Sleeping Tips for Your Child
If you are the parent of a toddler who doesn’t sleep in normal rhythms at night, you are probably tired out because you have to get your sleep too.
This could be a new problem, or your toddler sleep problems could be continuing from infancy. Whatever the case, you need to get the tools to cure these sleeping problems and get your child to sleep normally. It’s important for the health of your whole family.
First, it’s important to establish a bedtime based on your family’s schedule and the amount of rest your child needs.
It's thought that children who are 3-5 years old should get 11-13 hours each night, and early school age kids should be getting 10-11 hours of sleep. So, figure out what time you need to wake up and get the child’s morning routine going each day, and back up from there.
Consider a naptime. Whatever you decide, keep
the waking, napping, and going to bed times the same each
day. Sticking to a routine is essential. Also, don’t waver.
If the child tries to get you to extend it, don’t do it!
Keep your child busy during the day to discourage toddler
sleep problems. Also, having a good sleep environment is
essential. Some things to consider are lights, sounds, and
comfort. Is your child physically and emotionally
comfortable in his or her room? Is it dark enough to fall
asleep? A child is not naturally afraid of the dark, so once
your child is used to dark, it’s not likely to become a
problem.
Having a calming routine before bed such as reading
a story together or taking a warm bath can help. Also, the
bedroom should be electronics-free. Nobody needs TV or video
games in their room, let alone a toddler.
Keep his or her
activities to soothing or calmer ones just before bed. Also,
feed your toddler a nutritious diet. The body is an amazing
machine if you fuel it correctly.
Establish good habits and let your schedule be predictable for your child. They will sleep better as a result.
Hopefully, these tips and the many more you will find here will help ease the toddler sleep problems in your home.
